China opens new highway in Tibet close to Arunachal border

China has opened a new expressway linking Tibet’s provincial capital Lhasa with Nyingchi, which is close to Arunachal Pradesh border. The 409-km toll-free expressway has linked the two major cities which are also tourist attractions in Tibet. The new expressway has been built at a cost of nearly $ 5.8 billion. The expressway cuts Lhasa-Nyingchi travel time from eight to five hours at a speed limit of 80 km per hour. Heavy trucks have been temporarily banned from running on the new Lhasa-Nyingchi expressway.
