In Uttar Pradesh, a special immunisation drive for children up to 5 years of age begins in 60 districts of the state under Intensified Indradhanush. It will be conducted by January next year and in every month immunisation drive will be conducted for seven days.
In 8 districts including Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur and Kanpur drive will focus on urban areas and in remaining 52 districts both urban and rural areas will be covered.
Under the mission 90 percent targeted unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children will be given vaccines and boosters against the life-threatening diseases including Polio, Dephtheria, Pneumonia, Whooping Cough, Tetanus and Japanese Incephalitis.
As per UNICEF reports every second child in the State is not fully immunised and it exposes them to life-threatening diseases.
