ADB to lend $375 million for irrigation projects in MP

India signed a $375 million loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for expanding irrigation networks and system efficiency in Madhya Pradesh. The project will support the efforts of government of Madhya Pradesh for irrigation expansion and modernisation plan by maximising irrigation efficiency and water productivity.  Madhya Pradesh Irrigation Efficiency Improvement Project will develop 125,000 hectares of new, highly efficient and climate resilient irrigation networks and improve water use efficiency in more than 400 villages, benefiting over 800,000 people in the state. The funds will be used to develop a large-scale pressurised and automated irrigation system for boosting irrigation efficiency.


Assam government extended AFSPA for six months

The Assam government extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in the state for six more months with immediate effect. The Act gives special rights and immunity to security forces in carrying out various operations in “disturbed” areas. As per powers conferred under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, the Governor of Assam has declared the entire State of Assam as ‘Disturbed Area’ up to 6 (six) months beyond 28th August 2018, unless withdrawn earlier.


Arunachal Assembly Passes Bill For Creation Of 3 New Districts

The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly passed a bill for the creation of three new districts, Pakke-Kesang, Lepa Rada and Shi Yomi, in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein had introduced the Arunachal Pradesh Re-Organisation of Districts (Amendment) Bill 2018 Bill in the House. The Assembly passed the by bill by voice vote.
